En Route
Chiang Mai. I was en route to Chiang Mai, Thailand. I was saving myself from the oblivion of non-realization.
I'd just boarded the plane at Singapore airport. As I wandered around the terminals, I came across a little stand selling twenty different flavors of Japanese mochi. I took out my phone and snapped a photo, then sent it to Jesse.
Look what I found! I said. Remember my birthday trip to Melbourne, where we wandered around the city for three hours, searching for mochi?
Plane rides always gave me plenty of time to think about the past and dream about the future. I stared out the window as the clouds danced around the wings. What a breathtaking feat of engineering! I thought about all the components that came together to assemble the aircraft — all the raw materials, and people, and knowledge, and co-ordination. Magnificent! Technology is incredible!
